At the time of his death, Kevin was a student at Florida Gulf Coast University and hoped to eventually become certified as a physician's assistant. That seems a long way from art school, which is where he went after graduating from Hersey High School (Arlington Heights, IL) in 1992.
While Kevin's career goals evolved over the years, his passion for art was unwavering. The chaos of his existence was channeled into the visual meditation of artistic practice, creating a path toward mindfulness and self-understanding that was illuminated by the words of spiritual guides, philosophers, poets, and story-tellers in the many books he devoured.
Kevin's family and friends know that he gave away significantly more artwork than he kept or sold. He lived for sharing what he had and helping other people as much as he could. The Kevin S. White Memorial Art Scholarship was developed to keep Kevin's spirit of giving alive by providing awards to help non-traditional (e.g., older) art students in their first college degree program pay for tuition, university fees, books, or art supplies.

Mom, Dad, and I hope to work with Florida Gulf Coast University to offer scholarships to undergraduate Art Majors in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
In our vision, scholarships of $500 - $1000 will be awarded to one or more eligible students each year. The awarded amount will be paid directly to Florida Gulf Coast University to be used toward the scholarship recipients' tuition, university fees, books, or art supplies.
A Scholarship Proposal has been submitted to FGCU for review, along with a draft Scholarship Outline (describing eligibility, awards, deadlines, and application instructions) and Scholarship Application Form.
It would be great to get the scholarship established in time to solicit and process applications for a Spring Semester 2014 Scholarship. I'll post details when we have them.
If you're interested in a peek at the proposed (and yet-to-be-approved) eligibility criteria, hop on over to the Chicken-flippin' Blog.
